The Olympianist 2012

Land's End to John O'Groats, May 2012

Winner of the William Kapell International Piano Competition in Washington DC, the NFMS/ESSO ‘Young Concert Artists Award’ and prize winner at the International Schubert Competition and Special Prize at the ARD Munich Competition, British pianist, Anthony Hewitt embarked on an extraordinary project in May 2012 which linked the musical and the sporting world in a mission to raise money for charity. Anthony Hewitt became ‘The Olympianist’. Anthony, who when not playing the piano is an avid cyclist, cycled from Land’s End to John O’Groats. En route he raised in excess of £10,000 for his named musical charity and performed over 23 recitals in 23 different venues.

This was a unique project conceived by a rather special and generous musician who gave an enormous amount of his time, both prior to and during the event, to raise money for three key charities. It was Anthony’s mission also to bring classical music to more people throughout United Kingdom and use his gift for music for a good cause. O’Carroll Artist & Project Management were truly delighted to be involved in this project, working with Anthony and presenters throughout the UK on a viable artistic schedule and one that would work in terms of the cycle route. It was a lot of fun and we congratulate Anthony on this epic journey.
